Looking for a trained and experienced literacy (reading and writing) instructor at the 9-12 level? This will be my third year preparing students for the ELA portions of the ACT and SAT, as well as my second year preparing students for the new Common Core grade 11 English exam and for the GRE. If your student is taking AP English Literature, please consider my services as well. An avid reader, I aced the AP English Literature exam and continued to study literature from a variety of cultures in college. I have also tutored students taking the AP English Language exam. Before becoming a tutor, I retook the SAT twice, scoring in the high 700s in both Critical Reading and Writing. All of my students' test scores have risen under my tutelage.

As a middle and high school English teacher, I teach grammar on an almost daily basis! My teaching of grammar draws upon three different, complementary workbook series, as well as custom lessons and activities. My comments and feedback on written work also include grammar corrections. Students who work with me on their grammar skills will see vast improvements in their understanding and correct usage.

Do you need an expert proofreader to check your written assignments and provide suggested changes? Do you want to know why those changes are correct, so that you can learn from your mistakes and hopefully not repeat them? Do you want suggestions regarding additions, reorganization, and use of rhetorical (persuasive) strategies, in addition to grammatical suggestions? If you answered yes to these questions, please contact me!

This year I am focusing on two Regents courses: Global History & Geography and English (both Comprehensive English and the new Common Core English). For the past five years, my tutoring students have all done extremely well on their Global Regents exams, even those with special challenges. I am currently teaching English myself during the school day, as well as tutoring students in reading comprehension and writing.

One of the most important tasks when providing tutoring is to identify the best study techniques for a particular student. I have extensive experience helping regular, honors, and AP students to improve their study skills and substantially raise their grades. As an inquisitive teacher, I am also quite familiar with a large variety of successful methods to use when trying to remember diverse types of information. My training and experiences enable me to help each of my students to identify and master the most beneficial study technique(s) for him/her.
