I have worked with many students of various ages and abilities, including those with special needs. I am most familiar and have worked with more students who have ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s, Cerebral Palsy, and/or spinal cord injuries; however, I do know quite a bit of information on other learning and physical disabilities. My junior year of high school I took a school-age child development class. In that class I did an intensive research project on childhood ADD/ADHD; however, a lot of my knowledge of the condition was gained by working with children with the disorder. My 10-year-old niece has a slight case of ADHD and babysitting her has taught me a lot. My sophomore year of high school I volunteered at a daycare/preschool where a lot of the children had special needs and I also tutored elementary school students in a special ed class and some of the children had some form of attention and hyperactivity disorder.
I am studying theater with an emphasis on the technical production-side of things in college. Most of my sophomore, junior, and senior year of high school was spent onstage or backstage. I performed in two musicals (Hairspray and Oklahoma) and one play (A Midsummer Night's Dream). My senior year I was the assistant stage manager for a play (The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged) and one musical (Cabaret). As a stage manager I assisted actors with lines, helped the director take notes, and a lot more. I may not be an expert in theater (at the moment at least), but I know a lot and more than enough to tutor a student. If you'd like to know more just ask!
