Hello, my name is Temisha. I have been a provider of supplemental instruction (tutoring) since 1991. My post-secondary education is in Human Services, Psychology, and Education. My undergraduate work was done at Saint Louis University and my Graduate work at Southern Illinois University. I am a educator, provisionally certified to teach mathematics in Texas.
I tutor students between the ages of 3 and adult. My specialty subject is Mathematics. I tutor students below grade-level, on grad...
ACT Preparation: Math
This service is designed to build/reinforce key arithmetic - trigonometric concepts. It also incorporates test taking strategies to build the confidence needed to increase speed and accuracy.
This service is designed to build/reinforce skill to help a student to:
recognize and understand the basic features of, and concepts related to, the provided information
examine critically the relationship between the information provided and the conclusions drawn or hypotheses developed
generalize from given information and draw conclusions, gain new information, or make predictions
This course extends the topics first seen in Algebra I and provides advanced skills in algebraic operations. Additionally, linear and quadratic functions and relations, conic sections, exponential and logarithmic functions, graphing, and sequences and series will be explored.
Designed for the main stream and honor/AP student.
As an educational entrepreneur, I have many years of practical experience, owning and operating a business. I have written several business plans, proposals, and grants. I have been awarded multiple local, state, and federal grants to provide my services in multiple states. I also have many years for formal education in business. I have taken courses such as accounting, entrepreneurship, business plan writing, economics, marketing, small group communication, business writing, reaseach methods, statistics, etc.
I am a tutor and mother of three home schooled children. As a home schooling parent, I created the lesson for all of my children during their elementary years. This included all of their core course. As a tutor, I provided kindergarten preparation for local home daycare facilities and after school tutoring for their school aged children.
As a graduate student in the education department, my service as a GA was to teach GED classes. I taught each of the content areas to ensure that students were able to get the best score possible on the GED assessment. In the case where students were not ready for GED class, I provided tutoring in Pre-GED.
This service is designed to build/reinforce referring and reasoning skills to:
determine main ideas
locate and interpret significant details
understand sequences of events
comprehend cause-effect relationships
determine the meaning of
context-dependent words, phrases, and
analyze the author's or narrator's voice
This course develops a structured mathematical system employing both deductive and inductive reasoning. It includes plane, spatial, coordinate, and transformational geometry. Algebraic methods are used to solve problems involving geometric principles.
For regular and honors/AP.
My teaching experience began in Missouri and continues in Texas. I have taken and passed the Praxis II Mathematics 069 and the TExES 115(passed the first time). I am very familiar with the type of questions asked and testing format. I used the same standardized test strategies, techniques and approaches to pass this test in the first attempt that I use with students.
Instruction is designed to reinforce mathematical skills taught in the previous courses with additional advanced computation including an emphasis on Algebraic concepts. Students study fractions, decimals, percents, positive and negative integers and rational numbers. Student works toward becoming more proficient in using ratios, proportions and solving algebraic equations. Students will develop and expand problem solving skills (creatively and analytically) in order to solve word problems. Students continue to practice using math skills to solve word problems and to think creatively and analytically. Students can use manipulatives and calculators. Successful completion prepares students for success in Algebra 1.
This course extends and integrates concepts from algebra and geometry. It includes a study of polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions, inverse and second degree relations and their graphs. Other topics include complex numbers, polar coordinates, vectors, sequences and series.
I have 22 years of tutoring experience in each of the subject assessed on the TAKS test. I also have many years of experience preparing students for a variety of standardized assessments. As an educator in the state of Texas, I am very familiar with the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills) that are assessed on the TAKS.
Sessions are designed to build a strong foundation in basic trigonometry. These trigonometry topics are taught in high school. Students would have to be proficient in basic trigonometry in order to take AP trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus.
Basic trigonometry topics
Radians, arc, trig functions, trig ratios, trig identities, trig tables, trig equations, double angles, half angles, other trig formulas, sin/cos/tan and their inverses, graphing periodic functions and their translations.
