Hello, my name is Heather S. I'm twenty and a current FVTC (Fox Valley Technical College) student going for my TESL/ELL Certificate to teach English as a second language. Since I graduated in 2013, I have taken several non-accredited courses through Open Culture. These courses included Psychology, Greek Mythology, Elementary Level Math, Creative Writing, and History from around the world. I have learned a lot in these classes and use what I learned in college today.
I have been volunteering...
I have experience helping students in grades 3rd-8th. I volunteer every Friday at Chilton Public Schools helping 5th graders and students who have reading/learning disabilities. I plan on continuing my education to get a Bachelors degree in ESL. I love working with teenagers! I have a younger sister who is a 9th grade who I've been helping in English. I helped her get her first A!
Every Friday since December 2014, I've been working with 5th graders in their Social Studies class. I took several history classes on Open Culture and have done very well in high school. I challenged myself in high school and took an extra credit of Social Studies. I enjoy helping students in this subject. I believe in visual and task-based learning styles for Social Studies learning.
I have been a member of the Wisconsin Writers Association since 2012. This last May I was a speaker at the Lakefly Conference in Oshkosh with the Wisconsin Writers. My degree, Teaching English as a Second Language, has opened many paths for me and working with students is one of my passions.
